Marriage of John Exton and Sarah Sixmith

John Exton of Shoreditch Citizen and Glover of London, son of John Exton of Yardley in the County of Hartford Grocer. And Sarah Sixmith Relict of Revolution Sixmith of Bishops Gate Street Cheesemonger. Having declared their Intentions of taking each other in Marriage before several publick meetings of the People of God called Quakers in London, according to the good Order used among them, whose Proceedings therein, after a deliberate Consideration thereof, with regard unto the Righteous Law of God, and Example of his People recorded in the Scriptures of Truth in yt (age) were approved by the said meetings, they appearing clear of all others, & having consent of Parents and Relations concerned. Now these are to Certifye All whom it may concern That for the full accomplishing of their said Intentions this Second day of the Third Month called May In the Year according to the English acco:t One Thousand Six Hundred Nine and Five They the said Jno Exton and Sarah Sixmith appeared in a publick Assembly of the afores:d People, and others met together for that end in their Publick meeting Place at Devonsh' House London, and in a Solemn manner, He the said Jn:o Exton taking the said Sarah Sixmith by the Hand did openly Declare as followeth, Friends in the Fear of the Lord and in the Presence of this Assembly [whom I desire to be my Witnesses] I take this my dear Friend Sarah Sixmith to be my Wife Promiseing by the Divine Assistance of the Lord to be to her a Loving and Faithfull Husband till it shall please the L.d by Death to separate Us. And then and there in the said Assembly, the said Sarah Sixsmith did in like manner Declare as followeth Friends inthe Fear of the Lord I take this my Friend Jn.o Exton to be my Husband promiseing by the Lords Assistance to be to him a loving and Faithfull wife, till it shall please the Lord by Death to separate Us. And the said Jn.o Exton and Sarah Sixmith as a futher Confirmation thereof did then and there to these Presents set their Hands, And we, whose Names are hereunto subscribed, being present among others, at the solemnizing of their Said Marriage and Subscription, in manner aforesaid, as Witnesses hereunto have also to these presents Subscribed our Names, the Day and Year above Written.
